Dreamtime Port to Port Tour
- Duration: 8 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Port Adelaide, South Australia
- Product code: DP2P
After pick up from the city we head down to our first destination, historic Port Adelaide.
Known by early settlers as Port Misery, you’ll hear the stories that shaped the Port through its heyday and see how it has maintained its place as an original working port whilst transforming into the beautiful place that exists today.
Following our tour of the Port we drive around to the historic Torrens Island Quarantine Station.
Here, for almost 100 years the island that now is home to Adelaide’s two power stations was once the state’s first line of defence for containing transferable diseases. Passengers suspected of having contagious diseases like smallpox were disembarked and ‘bathed’ until they were deemed free of infection and allowed to travel on to their final destination in Australia. Take time to wander around the ‘village’ and see how it is being restored to remember the history behind the wonderful Port of Adelaide.
Enjoy a lunch of Bush Tucker produce before we make our way over to the Clipper Ship City of Adelaide, one of only 2 surviving composite clipper ships (the other being the Cutty Sark, a national icon of British maritime history). Hear how passengers survived the at times tortuous journey to only then have to spend time at the Torrens Island Quarantine Station when they arrived.
Board the One & All Sailing Ship for a one-hour sail up the sheltered Port River to really imagine life on board. Disembark at Outer Harbour where your bus will meet you for the journey back to the city.
Tour length is approx 8 hours. Return to Adelaide around 5-5.30pm
(single designated location – confirmed upon booking)
